Call for Presentations & Panels for the 2019 Washington GIS Conference

The Washington State Chapter of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (WAURISA) invites you to share your experience, expertise, and knowledge with colleagues and offer solutions for success by presenting at our 2019 annual conference.

Individuals chosen to present will gain recognition by their peers, raise awareness of critical issues, and identify current trends in the industry.

The Presentations Sub-Committee is seeking presenters to share a wide range of GIS topics and will select presentations, panel discussions, and lightning talks to reflect an array of interests and levels of expertise. Selection will be based on the value of the proposed topic to the audience and the clarity of the abstract.

Please submit an abstract for presenting any of the following:

    • Project Presentations - 30 to 90 minutes long, or
    • Lightning Talks - no longer than 15 minutes, or
    • Panels - participant list must be formed prior to abstract submittal

Abstract Submission DEADLINE: March 27, 2019

We are proud to welcome Bill Johnson, the "Carpe Geo" Evangelist with AppGeo, as the 2019 conference keynote speaker!

    "What is carpe geo?

We have all heard the phrase carpe diem which translates to “seize the day.”

Carpe geo is seizing the opportunity to do great things with GIS.

A GIS project almost inevitably starts with a simple request, “Can you make me a map?”

The requester may not even know what they are asking for beyond that they want a map.  A vague request is an opportunity to learn, teach, and explore the full potential of GIS.  The trail from this simple request may lead to a very different destination than the one originally envisioned.

When you view this as a chance to experiment, mine ideas, and see where the exploration leads …"

For more information on Bill Johnson, the "Carpe Geo" Evangelist, check out the Keynote webpage on the 2019 Washington GIS Conference website.
